About Lamont
My name is Lamont Westmoreland - and I am a candidate for the 5th District Alder seat in the great city of Milwaukee.
I was born & raised in Milwaukee – I have lived in District 5 for nearly a decade, and I love it here! I reside in the Nash Park neighborhood with my wife of 18 years, Samantha, and our two children - Julian & Farrah. I am running to make sure we get someone in office who understands what life is actually like in this district - and truly wants to improve it. I don't live on the outskirts of the district nor do I live outside of the district. I live right in the heart of it. We don't need someone who's looking for the next step in a political career or a career reboot. I feel like too many in local government positions like alder person use the position as a stepping stone or springboard to higher-paying government jobs. With some, it is simply a pit stop on their way out. I am not looking to springboard a political career. 5th District Alderman is my highest aspiration, as I truly believe that is where the foundation is built.
My background is in non-profit (Hunger Task Force) and small business lending (Byline Bank). At Hunger Task Force, I advocated across the City of Milwaukee by combating and fighting to end hunger as well as educate the public on various state assistance programs. At Byline Bank, I also advocated for people by helping them secure funds to purchase businesses, start up new businesses and construct/expand structures. In this role, I helped many small businesses right here in Milwaukee - make their dreams a reality. Small businesses are the heartbeat of a city - and look to help area businesses in the area with my knowledge is small business operation, growth and how to gain access to capital.
After learning how to successfully build a business and run every aspect of it, I decided to step away from lending to start my own business in January 2020. Although I love the company that I have built - I am fully ready to hand the keys of the responsibility off and commit my attention and effort to district 5. Right now, the district needs me more than my business does. I have a very diverse background and I look forward to bringing many different people from different experiences and backgrounds together to collaborate.
Things I love to do include, anything involving family, attending Bucks games (I might be the biggest fan in the world), playing basketball and simply learning about and connecting with people. I have coached basketball at the high school varsity level and have been a volunteer coach at the 5th-8th grade levels for the past 7 years. Lastly, I am a current level 5 WIAA state-licensed basketball official, now in my 13th season.
I look forward to working TOGETHER to make District 5 great! This isn't about me. This is about us. I'm young with unmatched passion and energy - along with many working years ahead of me as Alderman of District 5. Vision, passion and a heart for people are my top three qualities – and I look forward to bringing that to District 5.
Respectfully,
Lamont Westmoreland
